It is a kind of love, is it not?
How the case holds its CD,
how the earring rack cradles the posts,
how the paper receives the stab of a pen
or pencil. How the pen knows
what it's supposed to write.
I've been thinking about the patience
of ordinary things, how a blanket
folds comfortably at the bottom of a bed,
and a toothbrush drips in its cup,
and the carpet soaks up the sun,
shimmering through the window.
And the swirling metal of a slinky.
And what is more giving than a book?

This was a really cool poem. I loved all the "ordinary things" that you filled your poem with-- how'd you think of such ordinary things like that? I really loved the line about the paper receiving a stab; it was a really original way to simply say a pen writing on a paper. This poem made my mind think about ordinary things in life, especially how "the pen knows what to write"-- it's a very interesting thought. Great job!
I enjoyed this poem. It was a great reminder of ordinary items that people dont pay much attention to. I agree with Ariella, how did you you think of other ordinary things? When I tried to write a mimicry on this poem, I could not think of other things besides the ones that were already used. I loved reading the poem- it made me stop and think.
This is a very insightful poem. By looking at the simplicity of life it allows us to more fully appreciate it. I also did a response to this poem and it was hard to think of simple things in the such a way. I loved the items you choose. Great job.
